Kosmadei (Kosmadaioi) is located in the northwestern part of Samos and northwest of Kastania, 12 km away from Karlovassi. The village is built on the slopes of mount Kerkis and has a spectacular view to the sea. It took its name from the first inhabitant that descended from Kastania and called Kosmas Kastaniotis.
Attraction of the village is the monastery of Panagia of Chatzimanolis, located in an area called Kakoperato. It is built in an altitude of 580 meters high in the homonymous ravine and is dedicated to Zoodochou Pigi. Near the monastery, in a distance of 500 meters, is a cave known as ‘Che-Che Hole’ where there is a chapel.
The inhabitants deal mainly with viticulture, olive cultivation and animal husbandry.
Kosmadei also belongs the settlement of Nikoloudes which is situated 2 km from the village. It is an old settlement with few residents and with old traditional rhythms in houses and in life.
