Koumaradei

Koumaradei is located east of the village Pyrgos, in a distance of 5 kilometers from it, in the southeast slope of mount Karvounis near a ravine. It took its name from the many arbute-trees that existed there. To the east you can see the Eptastadios Strait, the peninsula of Mycale, Pythagorio and the whole plain of the country. In the south side is the monastery of Megali Panagia and the village Pagondas. In the west side is the village Pyrgos and in north side is Mauratzaioi.
South of them and in a distance of 2 km, on a wooded plateau, is built the monastery of Assumption or as it is mentioned in patriarchal documents, the monastery of ‘Panagia ton pente ospition’, or of the ‘Great Virgin Mary’ as the world calls it.

The land of the region is mountainous. The village holds a large rural region, which is covered with olive trees, so it has great oil production. Near the village are the ‘Megales Fleves’ (Great Veins) that nourish Imbrasos with abundant water and during the summer are watering gardens and orchards.

The main occupation of the villagers is agriculture. It is the first village of Samos on oil production comparatively on the population.

Orchards with oranges and other fruits exist near the Fleves. Livestock breeding is relatively good, especially domestic birds.

It has sweet winter and cool summer.
Koumaradei with the monastery of Megali Panagia are a community with 157 inhabitants. It has a single-seated school and it is one of the smallest villages on Samos.
